Covenant University has emerged the Best Maintained Educational Institution in the country in the Institutional Facility Management Award for 2012
The award which was the second edition was organised by the
Nigerian Chapter of the International Facility Management Association at
the Eko Hotel and Towers, Lagos.
Presenting the award to the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the management team, the Head of Department, Architecture, Dr. Albert Adeboye who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the event, reported that the University emerged best among the three institutions selected under Educational Institution category.
In a related development, the University also emerged 2nd and 5th positions in a Design Competition organised by Ife Architecture Students Association of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The HOD Architecture announced that the University was awarded an HP Office jet 7000 Printer and cash awards for her effort.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo stated that it could not have been anything less, considering the efforts of the Directorate of Physical Planning and Development and other departments responsible for maintaining the University facilities.
On the other awards won by the University, the Vice-Chancellor noted that despite the short notice of the competition, the representatives were able to participate and did the University proud.
He appreciated the HOD and his team for the good work and advised them to be more pro-active, while promising Management’s support for the Department.
Also speaking at the presentation, the Registrar, Dr. Ubong Ntia suggested that the University should put a Facility maintenance committee in place, to see to regular maintenance of facilities, in order to sustain its leading position.
Covenant University’s students who participated in the design competition were Aghazie Emmanuel (MSc II); Owoseni Abraham (MSc II); Adebiyi Adesola (MSc II) and Ajila Oluwatobi (MSc I).
Others are Idibe David (MSc I); Osomonika Elfreda (MSc I); Ajayi Mojisola (400 Level) and Odeyemi Ifeoluwa (300 L). The team was led by a lecturer in the department, Architect Obi Uwakonye.
