Covenant University wins Best Maintained Institution Award


Covenant University has emerged the Best Maintained Educational Institution in the country in the Institutional Facility Management Award for 2012
The award which was the second edition was organised by the Nigerian Chapter of the International Facility Management Association at the Eko Hotel and Towers, Lagos.
Presenting the award to the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the management team, the Head of Department, Architecture, Dr. Albert Adeboye who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the event, reported that the University emerged best among the three institutions selected under Educational Institution category.
In a related development, the University also emerged 2nd and 5th positions in a Design Competition organised by Ife Architecture Students Association of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The HOD Architecture announced that the University was awarded an HP Office jet 7000 Printer and cash awards for her effort.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo stated that it could not have been anything less, considering the efforts of the Directorate of Physical Planning and Development and other departments responsible for maintaining the University facilities.
On the other awards won by the University, the Vice-Chancellor noted that despite the short notice of the competition, the representatives were able to participate and did the University proud.
He appreciated the HOD and his team for the good work and advised them to be more pro-active, while promising Management’s support for the Department.
Also speaking at the presentation, the Registrar, Dr. Ubong Ntia suggested that the University should put a Facility maintenance committee in place, to see to regular maintenance of facilities, in order to sustain its leading position.
Covenant University’s students who participated in the design competition were Aghazie Emmanuel (MSc II); Owoseni Abraham (MSc II); Adebiyi Adesola (MSc II) and Ajila Oluwatobi (MSc I).
Others are Idibe David (MSc I); Osomonika Elfreda (MSc I); Ajayi Mojisola (400 Level) and Odeyemi Ifeoluwa (300 L). The team was led by a lecturer in the department, Architect Obi Uwakonye.

Covenant University Holds 2nd Overseas Higher Education Fair


Nine foreign Universities and representatives of about 500 other higher institutions in United Kingdom, USA, Canada and Australia participated in the 2013 Overseas Higher Education Fair organised by Covenant University
The event which was the second edition took place at the University campus on Friday,January 25, 2013.
Declaring the fair open, the Vice Chancellor Professor Charles KoredeAyo, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor AAA. Atayero advised the students to maximise the opportunity to get appropriate information on what to do during their postgraduate studies in the universities represented. He also noted that since all productive relationships must be symbiotic, the directorate of International Office and Linkages (IOL) should ensure plans are made in the future for similar visits by Covenant to the universities represented.
Also speaking at the event, the Director, IOL, Dr. N. Ekeanyanwu said that the programme was put together to acquaint the students with adequate information about Universities in the United Kingdom, USA and Canada for postgraduate studies.
He explained that quite a number of Covenant University graduates end up in U.K or U.S for their Masters Degree Programme and therefore, the fair was a free counselling for the students in order to avoid falling into the wrong hands when processing their admissions. He added that Covenant University has direct collaborations and linkages with most of the Universities represented and everything would be done to ensure maximum benefits for the students.
Universities and other institutions represented at the fair include University of Westminster, UK; HULT International Business School, Dubai; Griffith College Dublin; Birmingham University; Aston University and University of Roehampton.

EBSU STUDENT RIOTS



Angry students of Ebonyi State University this morning stormed the Canaan Lodge, Ishieke hostel of the Student Union Government president where they destroyed the SUG bus, looted a provisions store belonging to him andvandalized property.
The students said they were protesting the insensitivity of the SUG president especially his silence over the 100% increase in school fees. The angry students believed he had been settled to keep quiet so he became theirmain target.
The police were later called in and they shot tear gas to disperse the students. Sanity has since returned to the school.
